Stream Restoration

Red Run of Dry Fork watershed was a severely acid impacted stream. Ten years ago this stream was dead. BCTU has assisted the WV DNR in bringing the water chemistry back to acceptable levels with the application of limestone sand fines. Once the chemistry was correct, native brook trout from an adjoining watershed were relocated and have since thrived. We continue to support this effort with yearly applications of lime to the headwaters to counteract the acidity from precipitation to provide the perfect ecosystem. This Catch and Release - Fly Fish only stream, holds some true West Virginia beauties.

Trout In The Classroom

Trout in the Classroom (TIC) is an environmental education program in which students in grades k-12 raise trout from eggs to fry, monitor water quality and levels, learn to appreciate water resources, begin to foster a conservation ethic, and grow to understand ecosystems. After a successful inaugral year for Trout In The Classroom at Williamstown Elementary School, BCTU has continued in sponsoring TIC projects and has spread throughout the Mid Ohio Valley school districts. Programs end the year by releasing their trout in state-approved streams near the school. TIC has interdisciplinary applications in science, social studies, mathematics, language arts, fine arts, and physical education.
